cyclist for a day

A few weeks ago it was a rather sunny Thursday, it had been a quiet week for me at work and Friday was predicted to be warm and lovely. So, as I have a heap of annual leave waiting to be used I took the day off. To my luck it was a day that both Alba & Leo had free and they planned to go cycling through Hyde Park. So I took my rusty cycling skills along and we had a grand old time. It was fun to hire a bike but I don’t think I would ever leave the park, cycling in London looks like a terrifying death wish! And on that note, look at the cute gosling!

just before the spring

I’ve lived within walking distance of Richmond Park for a year now, and I only went there for the first time a couple of months ago. I had always wanted to go to see the deer and it was well worth hiking around for 3 hours. I was completely exhausted by the time I got home but I’m happy with the photos I took.

sparkling canals of Amsterdam

I was rather delighted when I got my second film from the Holland trip back and saw the canals sparkling in the spring sunshine. The canals are a lovely aspect of Amsterdam, and seem to be an integral part of Dutch history. The canals in London are hidden away and you have to make effort to visit them if you don’t live nearby. In Amsterdam, however, you don’t have that problem, and there’s something quite calming from the small channels of water running through a busy city. Certainly the Thames does not create a similar feeling!

(can’t have an Amsterdam post without some tulips!)

the tulips

A trip to the Netherlands without taking 500 photos of tulips is a trip wasted. They are my favourite flower, perhaps it is because I have Dutch heritage, but also because they are the prettiest, most wonderful flower. I like them because, in their most common form, they are simple & elegant, and don’t smell offensively. I went to Keukenhof, tulip heaven but also tourist hell.
